Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS)A key to exploring Franklin-SterlingThe Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society is a non-profit society devoted to better understanding the minerals and mining history of the Franklin-Sterling area.
Formed in 1959, today the FOMS has several hundred members, organizes informative meetings and quality collecting trips, and produces an award-winning journal, The Picking Table. Annual dues includes invitation to meetings and field trips, and subscription to the society's journal, The Picking Table, published twice a year. The Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society meets in the Fall and Spring, generally in the afternoon of the third Saturday of the month, at the Franklin Mineral Museum, in Franklin. Field trips are often held in the morning of those same Saturdays, or on the following Sunday. Meetings feature scheduled guest speakers who provide a lecture on a topic of interest. Field trips provide the collector with an opportunity to visit and collect at such places as the Franklin Quarry, the Lime Crest Quarry, Sterling Hill and other locations generally otherwise closed to collecting. Field trips require FOMS membership; Meetings are open to the general public. Dues are currently $15 per year for individuals, and $20 for families.
